Geology and Photogrpahy
This is a photo that I captured when I was on a class trip during my Geomorphology class at Mansfield University. It is located in Robert Treman State Park, NY near Lucifer Falls. I was really pleased with how this photo turned out. It really captures the beauty of the rock formations and how the water flows over them. This can be an important aspect of geology as it captures that moment in time and shows future generations the flow patterns of water over a rock formation and its hydro logical aspects. This is important as the water causes weathering, both mechanical and chemical.
This image was taken at "Whaleback" near Shamokin, PA and shows another important geological aspect, shown in the syncline and dark coal seams. Shown at the left side is also a nice representation of folding and faulting in the earth's crust.
As these features are exposed to the elements they are broken down and in a state of constant change. Photography can provide an important tool to geologists and geoscientists by providing a clear and concise record of change throughout time.
